View Full Version : strange noise and vibration
first thing first, please excuse me if dont clarify my problem too well.
I have conti extreme all season tires on my evo, and eversince I have them on I notice this humming sound (not sure how I can describe it). the sound only occur when I'm at 50-65mph and it not a constant humming, it sound like whooosh whooosh like it rubbing agaisnt the fender. the other thing is when this happen my gas pedal vibrate very slightly and constantly at that speed, like I can sense the surface of the road. maybe I'm being paranoid but anyone that have the same tires and doesnt experience this please enlighten me on the subject. thank you in advance.

ask quickshift. he has the same tires.
Did you check your tire pressures? Could be a problem with that, or your alignment.
BTW, I had something pointed out to me at my autocross school: the recommended tire pressures for our stock tires may not be enough for a normal tire, since the stock ones have much stiffer sidewalls. So if you are using different tires, you might want to raise the tire pressures higher than the stock levels.

I have those tires and haven't experienced the symptoms you describe. I have noticed a slight vibration through the steering wheel at highway speeds. I've had these tires balanced three times and each time the balance has been slightly off. The vibration seems to change with road surface and almost disappears when the road quality is really good. I'm changing back to the Advans as soon as I can afford another set of wheels so I haven't been too worried. You and I can go for a ride on Saturday in my car and you can see if my cars gives you the same symptoms...

I been inflating my tires according to manufacture spec for the advan, I'll might try your suggestion Lacoste then I'll bring it to the dealer and check the alignment. I forgot to mention that the noise seem to come from the front only. If I dont go to nyc this weekend I bring the car out for you RavenRon.
The place that installed them prob forgot a weight or two while balancing them.
If it was me, I'd try putting the stock tires back on. No more snow around here anyway. It it goes away you know it's not the alignment or something on the car. Or you could rotate the Conti's front to back to see if the vibration switches ends. Maybe you have a defective tire.

well, I took the car to the dealer and mechanic say that the front bearing on both wheels will have to be replaced. I ask him what could cause the problem, and he says it could just be bad part. anyone has any other ideas?
