Well guys Maryland International Raceway (MIR) was open last night for a little Midnight Madness action. Its usually on Fridays and is packed so I decided to test it on a Wednesday night. To my surprise there was nobody there really. I raced in the 12.99 and under class and got in 4 runs....I could have had 5 but I wanted to see my buddies last run in his RX-8.

I was the only Evo there and really the only other nice import was my buddies STI. I have ran at the track numerous time before but always with my turbo Civic hatch......I broke my Evo cherry last night. Here is the rundown of my 4 runs.

Note, all runs done on 93 with boost ~23 tapering to 21

Run 1: R/T .942
60\' 2.202
1/8 8.635
1/4 13.152
MPH 111.34

On this run I had a horrible R/T and launch (obviously) I staged late and didnt hit the 2-step at all.......Dagger. My trap was decent so I knew I was going to get a lot better with a good launch.

Run 2: R/T .539
60\' 2.058
1/8 8.504
1/4 13.028
MPH 110.88

On this run I again had a horrible R/T and launch (notice a theme) I actually staged early and hit the 2 step way to early....I bounced off it a little too long and hit the rev limiter as the tree was dropping....bogged my start but not as bad as the 1st time.

Run 3: R/T .918
60\' 1.859
1/8 8.212
1/4 12.713
MPH 111.12

This run I had my first decent launch. I lowered my tire pressure to ~24 pounds which helped some. I staged and didnt hit the two step until the tree started to drop. My R/T sucked again......but I was mainly concentrating on my launch all night. When I picked up my time slip I was surprised I ran in the 12\'s because it did not feel like it.

Final run: R/T .638
60\' 1.697
1/8 7.880
1/4 12.286
MPH 112.66

This launch felt great...I knew I had a good pass right from the start. I only bounced off the 2 step three times and took off like a bat out of hell. My R/T sucked again, but again I was concentrating on my launch. I thought I might have ran around 12.5 and was really surprised with a 12.2.

All and all a great night for my first time. I lost every race of the night. I couldnt even hear my car rev next to all the tubbed out Mustangs and Chevelles I was racing. It felt good to be the only import representing racing in that class. With a little more practice im sure I can hit a 12.0. Any comments are welcome.......

Big props to ISP for my Clutch and Cams which definitely were the bulk of my decent times and props to Big Al for my baseflash that got me running right:)

Nice times. A lot different launching an AWD car vs. FWD/RWD isn't it? I really need to get to the track this season. I only managed once last season (didn't get the Evo till August) and had a horrible day. I had no idea how to launch w/o bogging. Keeping with the SJ theme . . . it was a show!! Hell, I still had temp tags on the car :)

Much reading on technique and street practice I hope will bring better times this season.

Thanks for the props. It was definitely alot diferent for me. Im so used to just revving all the way up and dropping the clutch. The 2 step really helped me focus on slipping the clutch though.
