Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone else here has been hit with an increase in insurance rates recently. The reason I am asking is that Geico is telling me that even though my record is spotless, I have never filed a claim, and I have every discount they offer my rate is jumping over 600 dollars a year because they have found that the Evo is generally more expensive to repair than they originally thought.
So who are you guys all insured with and what do you pay? To give you an idea I used to pay about 750 every six months and know it is over a grand.
Unfortunatly, I did have an extended warrenty with geico for 100,000 miles, which will be gone if I switch. Trying to figure out if it is worth it to jump ship. I know that Progressive with insure me for 650 every six months, but who is to say that they won't jump up there rates next renewal period. Does anyone know of any legality prohibiting insurance companies from raising thier rates at will?
Any help would be appreciated, pissed off to no end at this point.

I have Geico, but my wife hasn't mentioned anything about a rate change yet... Let me tell you why I think that's bull crap: You can't go to the company and say "oh, I thought I'd be making more money, so I want my rates lowered." I know it's not apples to apples, but... I'm not sure when my policy is renewed, so I'll have to be on the lookout. BTW, trying to get Geico to honor the extended warranty is about as hard as Mitsu...

This is what I wanted to know ..... have you had first hand experience? If the warranty is useless then I will definetly have to switch....look out for your next renewal because they said that the increase would be across the board. I am under the opinion that they just don't want to insure a 'high risk' vehicle like the Evo.

I know that mine has increased considerably in the last year. It basically doubled from 800/year to 1600/year when my wife's truck got eaten by a car wash. Don't ask me how a non-moving accident (only thing on the record) causes my Evo rate to double, but that's what happened. Then, when I switched coverage to Colorado, it went up another $300/year, so I've gone from ~$800/year to ~$1900/year. That's ridiculous...and I even have USAA.

Well, I don't think that it's useless. I mean I just gave up after a week trying to explain over the phone and having a shop explain over the phone what and why... It really often just becomes easier to pay out of pocket. Seriously I think the gov. needs to start regulating the business, but on the other hand there should be more severe penalties for fraud and misuse. It's really F-ing it up for people like you and me who have spotless records but have to pay anyway... if my rates go up there's really not much I can do. I have basically everything through Geico.
The sad irony is that insurance is pretty much by definition for "high-risk"... if there isn't a risk, then why would you need insurance, you know? The whole industry is a huge paradox.

I have State Farm, and have been very happy with their service. Funny thing about insurance is that it's a drain when you don't need it, but the moment you do it all becomes worth it. However, the rates are a bit inflated.
Murphy's law: I had full coverage on my 92 Toyota Camry for years after it was fully paid off. The month after I switch to liability only, my mother decides to have a car-b-que on the side of 495. Total loss.
I'll have to check with my wife to see if my rates have increased for either of my cars.

You are going to see an increase across the board. If 100% of drivers had Geico and 50% have accidents. Guess what, the other 50% still have an increase. Keep shopping around and go with the lesser amount, but also think about quality of work. Simply, paying less is not always saving. Call around and get quotes. If you have, home insurance, renters insurance and car insurance with the same company, you save a little, about 10%. One thing that all insurance companies look at is the age of the driver. If you are under 25, you pay more.
Between my wife’s car and mine, I paid $2600.00 for 2005. In 2004, I only paid $1900.00.

If you have a wife get the whole policy put in her name, with you as a driver on the Evo. I have Geico and have had no increase and I pay $268 every 6 months for my evo.
I pay about 3200/year for 2 cars, full coverage. :( That's with 1 point and one comprehensive claim.

Well, I pay $1100 per 6 months with Esurance.
But then, I am also a single male < 25 yo, driving a "high risk" sports car. Guess it comes with the package.
Geico/Progressive each wanted $1900 per 6 months.

Allstate - $924 per 6 months to insure just the Evo. I have two at-faults and no moving violations on my record. My 240 adds about another $400 every 6 months for liability. However, if we want to compare insurance rates, shouldn't we also look at coverage? For example I carry 100/300/50 on the Evo w/ a $500 collision deductable and $250 comprehensive deductable.
I have Liberty Mutual. Im not sure why my rates are so high, Ive tried getting online quotes from a couple places and they were all higher.

I'm on my wife's geico, paying around $600 every 6 months on top of hers.
I have Mercury, which is unknown, but pretty cheap. Good service, etc. I am about $500/ 6 months with the G (sedan) and Evo.

about 800 every 6 months through Geico with a clean record and a slight discount for being a teacher.
i was quoted anywhere from 1500-3000 every 6 months from every insurance agency but state farm and geico though.
$650 every 6 months, GEICO. However, I have been with them for 11 years with only one ticket (two cars ago) and no claims (knock on wood). I'm also over 30 and married, which I believe helps a lot.
My wife still has a membership with USAA, and their rates have been competitive -- if geico raises the rates, we may reconsider changing.
See, I got a clean record, 1 accident (hit a head on a piece of plywood at 70mph on I-695...), but I pay 1350/6 months for the evo and 91 integra. However, I got 250 collision, 100 comprehensive, rental, roadside assistane, and I can't remeber the liability options. I know they are high coverage.

Sorry, $500 deductible. 100/300 (standard coverage)
