Fellow Evo owners, I don't know what it is maybe i'm retarded but I just can't get the hang of launching. Every time I try to attempt a launch I come off of the line slow and then it smells like i'm burning up my clutch. Anyone else having this problem? I think I need lessons from Warrtalon. We'll have to set something up. What are your secrets guys?

It's not easy, so don't feel bad. It's the most difficult thing to master in drag racing, but once you get it, the rest is easy. What you are doing is probably launching from too low of an rpm, which is causing you to ride the clutch to get going without bogging. This causes you to slip and burn the clutch all through first, which doesn't go fast and stinks up the place. Basically, each time you do that, you're shortening your clutch's life...

I could show you if you come to the Dyno Day tomorrow or if you come to the tuning session at TSF on Monday...

Well Warr, Hopefully I'll be coming up to TSF this week to drop my car off to get its mods done. I'll shoot you a message when i'm coming up and hopefully we can meet up and i'll take notes.

This is interesting ... the 1st and only time I've try to launch my Evo it did this very thing. The clutch stank for hours afterwards. A co-worker asked me if my car always smells like that in the parking garage. Glad to know what I did wrong, I'll have to try it again one day but from higher RPM.

I'm horrible at it too. I think I'm capable of doing it much better, but I'm a bit of a coward having done plenty of drag strip breakage on my other car launching hard.
