View Full Version : Finished my first DE at Summit this weekend
Everyone should do one! :D
I was a little on the nervous/tentative side on Saturday and subsequently got passed a LOT but by Sunday, I was passing most of the people in my group. The only people I had to point by were an Elise and an S2k. They were both on R-comps so I didnt feel too bad about that. I was amazed at how the car gripped, especially on the concrete sections. Turn 5 grips like MAD, I was floored (no pun intended) at how hard I could take the car through that turn.
It took me awhile to get comfortable with turn 4 (downhill but you cant lift because you'll go off) but by Sunday I had upped my speed to 85 through it and it felt great!
I cant wait for the NASA/MACH V event in September! :D

Looks like alot of fun and a good way to polish up your driving skilz.
I need to look into trying out one of these track days. I'm sick to death of the drag strip, good to see people using their cars for its intended purpose. You got a link with any info? BTW...cool pic.

I always thought Turn 10 was the tough turn to feel comfortable taking fast and it's critical to your speed down the front straight.
The scariest part of Turn 4 is if you follow someone too closely into 4 and then you see brake lights and not only have to lift but actually brake in the middle of the turn. That teaches you to get the hell around someone between 2 and 3 or just stay back until you get to the carousel.
BTW, I don't know how fast an Evo on Advans can hold Turn 4, but in my Camaro on Toyo RA1s I generally limited my speed to 100 to be safe through that turn and was not drifting at all at that speed. I imagine that an Evo can hold 100 through that turn even on street tires. You just need to work up to it (and of course be on line). What's wild is if you watch a race from inside 4 and see the cars coming out of 3 full bore into and through 4 3 wide trying to grab a position before entering 5 and then seeing everyone get squirrely trying to slow down for 5 and stay on the track to keep the position that they just got from their bonzai turn 4 effort. Now that is exciting!!
Jason, a good event for you to do would be the NASA/MACH V event in September. From what I hear you wont get as much track time as I did this weekend (5 18-minute sessions each day) but since there will be a bunch of Evos there, it should be a good first event.

Definitely. If I was ever following anyone into 4 I stayed way the hell back because I didnt want to have to get off the throttle or brake if they were going too slow. I followed one guy who braked the entire way through 4, I was waiting for him to go off but luckily he didnt. Also, in all but the advanced group, noone was allowed to pass between 2 and 3.

Yeah, the car still felt plenty stable at 85 and if I had had one more day I definitely would have taken it faster. My instructor was going about 90-95 through there in his E36 M3 on what he called crappy R-comps. He said he had been through there at 115 on RA-1's before.
