No, the current EVO engine has been around for I think like 10 years plus, now the transmission you may hear about.

Ahh... the first post in Lancer Tech and it's about an Evo. Heh... Seriously now, the Evo engine is very strong and capible of high boost. There used to be this stigma in the past that turbo's were costly and dangerous ways to get power, but engine technology has gotten to the point where it is very safe.

To my knowledge the only real weak point in the 4g63 engine is the cluch. A few people have had issues with their clutches going but over all if you take care of the car it will take care of you. I'm sure the Evo guys have much more to say about this than myself as they have the car. ::Back to my Lancer corner::

As with most modern engines, if you care for it properly, it is virtually bulletproof. Look how many older DSMs you see on the road... even in comparison to other older cars on the road. They use the same basic engine as the Evo. Of topic, but: I sold my 1995 tercel to my cousins with nearly 180,000 miles on it, and it's still purring like a happy cat... of course that engine put out a whopping 97hp LOL :(

Mitsubishi has strong engines overall. I think it's just the techs at a lot of the dealers that suck. They make mistakes here and there and everywhere.

You have to find a dealer that you trust if you are actually going to have them do work on the car for you. For example: Stohlman will never see my car in their service bay until the management and techs are all changed. Rockville will see my car every now and then. :)

it also comes down to "how" your driving it, because most of the people that complain of anny problems are launching it at every stop light, basically the way it was explained to me, is you have a choice, burn the clutch or frag the tranny, or transfer case, i would choose the clutch everytime

I have 79,000 miles on my 03 EVO still running the stock clutch. I agree it's all in how you take care of it! :D

I eagerly watch for updates from Deese! It's kind of like finding out how the car will do in the long run without having to wait! :) Each time he posts higher mileages and no problems I get more and more confident about the car!
