argharhareooaerog, clutch is slipping BAD at just about 3000 miles.... GRR!!!@ i just put on my hks 30th anniversary catback and dont know if it's a good idea to try to get the clutch looked at by the dealership with the aftermarket exhaust on it. just wondering if anyone had any advice.. im not driving my car anymore because the slipping was incredibly bad the past few days, and i dont want to put my baby in any more pain than she already may be in :( so basically it comes down to this...
1. should i take the car to the dealership? and if so, should i put my stock cat-back on so that i don't get ne trouble or what, cause i really dont want to go through all the trouble of puttin it back on but if that's wha it comes down to then better safe than sorry.
2. should i just go for the aftermarket clutch now and not even bother with the dealership? if so what are the estimates as far as buying and having a clutch installed (i want to get the exedy twin disc clutch) but i really don't know.
i haven't looked INCREDIBLY deep into clutches and the such because i didn't think i would have to replace on this early (then again i do have an evo right? typical problem, sigh) anyway, i need my 5th gear syncros fixed too, that's another issue!! so i guess i would have to take it to the dealer anyway... sigh, any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! ah thanks in advance guys... btw the bbq last weekend was great ;] nice meetin ya guys.

do not... and i repeat DO NOT take your car to the dealer... they will not fix it under warranty... with or without your exhaust... they will say that it is clutch abuse and that you have been launching your car or riding the clutch in their eyes it is a wearable item...
as far as aftermarket... the exedy twin is a good choice...i believe aaron has that one and he says it is very streetable... i ended up going with an RPS Turbo clutch but that is because i couldn't afford a 1000$ or > clutch
places to go to get it installed check with our sponsor AMS, or you could go to Agile Auto i had them do mine and had no bad experience with them... the labor was 550 and if you get it to them by 10 you will be done by 5 or 6
Mike D really knows his stuff... but i would definitely check with our sponsor AMS first...
yeah the dealership won't warrenty it, you can pick up some good prices on exedy singles and twins here: http://store.dynoflash.com
or you can find someone that has a good exedy organic or stage 2 clutch... the hyper single disk is a stage3 and i have a stage 4 clutch (twin)

I have over 17,000 miles on Evo with 5 or more track events anda lot of autocrosses and have no issues at all with the clutch. I don't understand why so many people are having issues. Are you drag racing your car? AWD cars are not meant for drag races or hard launches.
The dealer will screw you. Don't even bother with them. Go aftermarket.

thanks alot for the info, ya i wasn't too fond of going back to the dealership so that's sorta a relief, but at the same time sucks incredibly cause now i know i have to get money together to pay for this ;\ man i shouldve been saving up to be prepared, heh live and learn. neway, ya i wish i could go wit the exedy twin disc but it's 1000+ so i doubt that's going to happen.... about the RPS Turbo clutch, how do u like it? how do u feel with it compared to stock? i'm not sure what i should do right now, i refuse to drive my car until i get the problem fixed cause i dont kno what more could happen if i keep driving it... anyway ill keep lookin around at the clutches, try to find something that's not so expensive but still reliable, more-so than the stock clutch anyway.

another good choice is the RMR disc you keep the stock pressure plate i think the disc runs for around 200$ there is also another disc that RMR offers... check out their website on clutches http://www.rmrproducts.com/images/evo_parts/drivetrain_over.gifthe RPS rocks... i love it... the only thing is that it engages very early when your shifting or in first... but i got used to that quickly... what do you use the car for..?drag, drift, autox, or track, that would have a lot of influence on the purchase of my clutch... also what kind of power are you trying to make another big descision in purchasing a clutch assembly

i drag it a couple times a week, but have decided that when i get the aftermarket clutch im not going to be running it the way that ive been launching the stock clutch... that's pretty much it though, i dont plan on doing anything else other than the occassional shifting at redline... it's a daily driver, by the way, and i think that's pretty much it. sigh, poor car ;\ i know it's my fault that the clutch has worn out this early so im not gonna down mitsu's oem parts. im sure it could've lasted alot longer, but im one that likes to have fun with the car that i drive, which to some people may seem like "abuse" but im willing to fix problems that i may come across :p
neway, hopefully that'll give u guys the scenario of how i drive my car and help me in makin my final decision ;] i was actually checking out the SPEC clutch on JSC Speed's site, only $500, is this worth buying as far as labor and stuff of the clutch getting installed or should i go for something else? stage1-3 are all <500 so i was wondering what review anyone might have on this...

o ya and before i forget... about the 5th gear syncros, that's something that the dealership should know about and fix without any problems correct? obviously same issue bout the whole aftermarket exhaust... that shouldnt be a problem since it's an issue that theyre supposed to fix anyway right? not sure how this all works...

Unless you drag a lot, then clutch wear has to be attributed to the driver. I'm at 16,000 miles and have done plenty of autox, with no problems whatsoever. I've ridden in a lot of my friend's cars who drive manual trannys, and they really SUCK at driving manual. No rev matching, just a lot a clutch popping here and there. Not all of them are like this, but most are. And those that aren't, slip the clutch unnecessarily. I dunno, it kinda makes me wonder if a lot of Evo drivers are like that... it's like people are too lazy to try to get the right engagement point while driving so they just slip it unnecessarily.

i was told by my dealership that if i produce more horsepower with a mod it can void my warranty... power can relate to tranny failure but your dealership might be cool about it...

EliTe eVo,
I just ran into the same problem. I am at 9000 miles and yesterday my clutch started slipping bad. I eased into first then stepped on it. When I shifted into second it felt like the clutch pedel did not come off the floor and the engine reved up. I was like what the F*#k.
After pulling over and checking things out the clutch would enguage just off the floor. It starts to slip in every gear if I get on the boost.
I also want to get the 5th gear syncro fixed. Just want to find out what you did.
I try not to abuse the clutch very often. But like you said I do drive the car hard.
Just when you think your clutch is fine then bam it starts to slip. Mine went at 20,000 lol. I have the ACT street clutch and if you’re not going to drag it or mod it above 400 horses then I recommend it. No use spending over a grand on clutch you won’t use.

Those posts are pretty old. He probably already took care of the clutch; if it was that bad. However, I've been looking into clutches. The stock clutches.. really suck.. My Eclipse GS had a better clutch than my MR. But seems that Martin and TheSpeedFactor has a really good deal a clutches right now.
I would if I could, but mine still works, and I have other plans.. <devious laughter>

hey remember me? hah so i guess i never really followed up with what i did. as many of you will find stupid, i ended up just replacing it with a stock clutch... costed $270 for the kit, and then got it install for about 490 plus all kindsa other extras added in which came up to about 600 dollars at La Scuola Motors.
anyway, i suppose i lied before too. i ended up beatin the car just like i did before, except no crazy donuts (well, not really) etc. etc. and so the clutch lasted me another 19k miles. now, as you can imagine, i'm in the market for another clutch. or i was... i just purchased the exedy organic clutch kit with the cci flywheel from gruppe-s for $699 shipped. ima get it installed from a different shop taht will do it for 350 labor plus whatever other necessities may come into play. already got a ss clutch line from la scuola when they did their job.
i'll let you guys know how this clutch feels. thanks for all the input! i failed to checkup on it later but ya.
Jonathan
****EDIT****
oook, so i lied again! the exedy ended up being backordered SO i cancelled my order with them and went ahead with the ACT organic clutch with the Fidanza flywheel... should be comin in by monday, but possibly friday :p woohoo!
